An Offering
"An Offering" is solo choreographed during my first year away from home at the Conservatory, where I felt uneasy adjusting to my new environment. My Tibetan heritage was an anchor that kept me grounded and as the year unfolded I grew aware of the constantly adapting nature of identity. Displacement is a common feeling amongst Tibetans. As a Tibetan-American, I thought of other Tibetans under Chinese occupation and how heightened displacement feels while on land that you cannot call your own. This work became a reflective process and a mental offering to relieve suffering for all.

not outside
"not outside" is a piece I created in response to the raging west coast forest fires in the summer of 2020. I was in school studying remotely and was assigned a project to create an outdoor film in which the dancer explores the environment. Due to the extreme toxic air quality, Seattle was under lockdown and stuck inside for 16 days in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this short film, I chose to express the physical limits, fear, and frustration that arose. “not outside” reflects on the apocalyptic conditions and what the future holds.

སྐོར་ར- kora
The Tibetan word “Kora” means circumambulation, and is a holy practice of mindfully circling a sacred site or person. Accumulating merit, offering and receiving protection are common intentions when pilgrims cycle. Seeing life itself as sacred and holy, this work explores our interdependence with nature and the continuous life cycles recurring in all corners of the universe. Bringing calm, community, and awareness is emphasized by an excerpt of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche's “Three Pill Meditation Technique”.

Stardust
With an original score by composer Adrienne Cohenne, "Stardust" was inspired by collages and the process of cutting, piecing, and layering parts together. Our collaboration was a back and forth process, where I made a collage to inspire Adrienne’s music and she made one for me to inspire my movement and setting. With the same footage we explored our own ways of editing film and finding our narratives. Themes of space and readings on dream yoga made their way into this work.

home
Home was created for the 26th Annual Seattle TibetFest. This piece navigates through feelings of longing, confusion, acceptance, and love. I contrast stories from my Pala’s (Tibetan, father) youth to my experience of him as my father. I explore what is “home” as I dance through childhood spaces while listening to his reflections. This work hopes to bridge the gap between two generations by embracing our diverse Tibetan identities and our shared everlasting roots.
